Why I Love Being A Working At Home Mom

It’s almost been 3 months now since I’ve been working from home and I thought I’d blog a little bit more about it.

Let me tell you, friends…it’s been nothing but a.m.a.z.i.n.g!

Let’s not talk about too much about exactly what I’m doing right now as I intend to keep that part private but I never thought I would love working from home so much that for nearly three months I’ve been turning down job offers left and right.

Seriously, it felt so good to tell these people who had my resumes for months before I even got this job “No, thank you. You’re too late. I already have a job.” In other words? “Buzz off!

When I first started this job I had no idea how fun it would be. How following my passion can feels totally rewarding.

Here are just some of main reasons why I LOVE working from home:

    • My son! It feels so good to be able to stay home and be with him while still being productive. I always thought I would always need to work outside the home. I was worried at first how I’m going to juggle it all. The distractions and all that. It actually flows pretty naturally. My son now understand that when Mommy is upstairs at her ‘make-shift’ office she is working. When he gets home from school, I am home to greet him. To gives him hugs and ask how his day was. After lunch he knows Mommy have to go back upstairs and work. Another thing that feel so huge is to be able to sit down with him and help him with homework! When I was still working in the corporate world, there were days that I had to work late and by late I mean I wouldn’t be home until well after 8pm…way passed his bedtime. Not only I missed him, I couldn’t help him out with homework and missing out on our bedtime ritual. A few weeks ago I asked him if he likes it that Mommy is now working at home. I wish I could capture that look on his face…those beautiful eyes lit up like a Christmas tree!

    • Not having to deal with Jakarta’s ugly traffic. Oh how I NOT miss having to get up at 4:30 every day just to make sure I won’t be late for work. Of how I don’t have to be stuck in traffic for hours. Or those nasty train ride downtown standing, sweating among hundreds of commuters. Now, the only reason I get up early is to go to the gym! After I got that covered, I come home, take a shower and start working.

  • Freedom to work from anywhere and ability to manage my own time! All I need is an internet and I’m ready. Seriously, I could just pack up my laptop go to a coffee shop and work away when I get bored in my tiny little corner. I can meet friends for lunch or coffee and still meet my deadlines, I could even go do groceries with my boy and still not missing a beat with my work. Oh the joy of not being confined in a cubicle! My employer is truly amazing and with such trust, it only push me to give the best work I can give. Win – win solution!

Do I miss my old job? Absolutely positively sure NOT! I would never commit myself this much to get fit if I have to work in an office.

My life has been enriched since I’ve been working from home. Sometimes I still glanced at my formal office executive attires and smiled to myself knowing I did not miss wearing them at all. I did not miss the prestige office address above the 20th floor in a swanky building. None…nada!

I’m following my passions, doing what I really secretly love for years. What could be better than that? I’m just forever grateful for this.

Are you a working from home mom? What do you love most about it?

Spread the love

    Happy for you Oyen :))
As you know I’ve been working from home mom since 2008 (although “home” also means new country every couple of years!) and absolutely LOVING it! Working from home really channel my passion & creativity (since I manage my own time) while at the same time give me plenty of opportunity to be with the family, very important. Wishing you all the best with your new work and also your loved ones.

I totally understand where you’re coming from because I use to be in the corporate office and didn’t get to see my daughter much. I was not happy and neither was she. Now that I’ve switched professions and work from home, we’re both much happier!

Good for you, keep it up! There will be times – that’s all I’ll say – but remember the bonus is never as sweet as knowing you’ll be around when Little A asks if you can make it to his “publishing party”! Excellent. So excited for you!

Congratulation, Oyen! I am deeply envy with your new job. Hey I’m being honest here. Manage your own time don’t have to get rush every morning or come home late because of my full time job.
