You, yes you companies especially the ones in Indonesia should start hiring more moms into your workforce. Why? Here are some of the reasons why:
- Multitasking: Being a mother means we have the superpower in multitasking. Imagine from feeding the baby/child to preparing meals for the whole family or changing diapers while carrying out a conversation on the phone. That is multitasking!
- Managerial Skills: From managing the household staff(s) to managing the children’ many activities. It took managerial skills to maintain a peaceful home, an on-time schedule, albeit the exhaustion from a 24/7 on-call times.
- Time Management: We start a better time management right after our children were born! From what time do they eat to what time they should be sleeping. All prepared and thought of so we can manage our times better, thus be more productive.
- Negotiation Skills: We have mad negotiation skills especially when we have toddler(s) or (teenagers). We can bargain and negotiate with them to keep the peace in and around the home. When they’re on strike, you bet we’ll be there negotiating.
- Problem Solving: It is part of the most important requirement in motherhood. From putting up complicated train tracks to finding the beloved lovey. There are always demands to solve problems efficiently at all/any times.
- Punctuality: From baby’s milestones to toddler total huge meltdown in a restaurant/grocery store. We are required to have the ability to quickly think outside the box to solve problems.
- Goal Oriented: From baby’s first solid meal to baby’s first steps, down to kid’s college savings. We’re always on the lookout for long-term goals and work hard to make sure they are on the right timetable.
- Super Power: We can still function with little to no sleep with caffeine-induced arteries, we are always on the go and making sure everything is taken care of.
See? We are amazing!
Do you have any other ‘qualifications’ to add to this? Why do you think companies should hire mothers?
Hell ya I think we have other qualifications to add to your list: and we look damn good doing it all š
Great post as always. I agree completely. Its time for a change in the corporate world.
I add another qualification: the endless patience and persistence of a mother in nurturing her kids must give a contribution somehow to help the company stays in business during hard times like recession. š
Great list, I love this!!
I would say that our qualifications as mothers add the following to the working mom resume:
– great listeners, so attentive to our surrounding’s most vital needs
– team players — always strategizing with the rest of the family to make plans & to lay the foundation of your children’s education
– outstanding communication skills! Of course we understand more than the language of words, we know gibberish and grunting, screaming and squealing, giggling, pointing, arching back, running away, and rushing back… And we know what to say and what to do to make it better…
All right, I might be getting off track š
Maureen, you’re awesome! Hope you enjoy the job, and very importantly, I hope that the job loves you back! xoxo
nice article, thanks for share
grammar
Amazing post! I agree; I think I’d be a much better employee now than I was before I had kids. Nothing phases me, and I’ve learned diplomacy (especially how to bite my tongue š
Yes! Being a mother prepares us to handle everything. Nothing can shock us; we’ve been through it ALL!
lol that is very true, I want to add one more thing that mothers are tough and don’t crack under pressure š
I’m cutting and pasting this post and using it as my resume. If only someone would pay us to be mom’s. We’d be rich!
So agree with you! Cannot say it better.
I love this one, Maureen!
And I might add that most working moms I know (including myself) are always fashionably dressed and accessorized. I’ve found that burp cloths go well with most business suits, and a little strategically place baby spit up can add that extra something to your outfit.
Very cool post Maureen! Very clever of you! and spot on to boot!
Good luck again, enjoy it!
